Slán Lenár Sagairt

Tá deireadh ré tagtha. Tar éis na blianta ag obair linn sa Ghaelscoil, bhí orainn slán a rá lenár sagairt – an tAthair Charlie agus an tAthair Pat. Bhí searmanais speisialta againn sa scoil is bhíomar go léir an-bhrónach ag rá slán leis an mbeirt iontach seo a bhí chomh chabhrach, cairdiúil agus cineálta linn thar na blianta fada.

Alt a bhí sa nuachtán ‘Carrigdhoun’ scríofa ag Muinteoir Nóra:

After 20 years in the parish and 17 years working directly with Gaelscoil Charraig Uí Leighin, Fr Charlie Nyhan was invited to come and bless the new school building in June. With the school blessed and the extra blessing of a fine day, photographs were taken by a drone. On the announcement of Fr Charlie’s retirement, it was decided to present Fr. Charlie with a framed photo of the school community, with himself in the photo.

Much to everyone’s disappointment, Fr. Pat Fogarty was also set to leave the parish. On Thursday September 8th, both priests were invited to the school to say slán agus beannacht to two great friends and supporters of the school through the years, both in times of joy and sorrow.

A lovely ceremony was held with music and song, from both students and staff. Many children spoke of their memories of their sacraments and their gratitude for the help of Fr. Charlie and Fr. Pat. Príomhoide Séamus de Lóndra spoke of his memoires of the 17 years with Fr Charlie and thanked him for his support last year after the death of the beloved former principal Bríd Úna Ní Mhaoileoin. He acknowledged Fr. Pat’s great work too and complimented him on how much his Irish had improved over the years and what a great effort he had made helping the school at all times as parish priest.

Fr. Charlie spoke on behalf of both priests to the full attention of all children from 1st to 6th, many of whom had not been at a school gathering of the like due to covid restrictions. Both priests will be sadly missed. Ní bheidh a leithéidí arís ann. Guímid gach rath agus beannacht orthu.
